About the artist
Mia Moore is a freelance artist with a passion for animation, illustration, traditional art, and design. Originally from The Woodlands, Texas, Moore earned her BFA in Electronic Studio from Howard University (You KNOW!!) and her MFA in Experimental Animation from California Institute of the Arts. She has channeled this passion into creating graphics for the 2021 NBA All-Star game, along with her collaboration with Beats by Dre for the Propel Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Most recently, her animated film pretty girl, pretty girl was screened at the second annual HBCU First Look Film Festival.
Moore's work focuses largely on exploring the aesthetics of black femininity. Short-form work such as gifs and static graphics channel her more sporadic thoughts and experiences into creative artifacts, while her longer-form work draws parallels between her childhood and the present. A guiding principle in Moore’s practice is to create art she believes a younger version of herself would have loved or benefitted from seeing. She is currently based in Los Angeles, California as she embarks on new creative opportunities post-graduation.
